It's a problem many pet owners have had: keeping your dog from digging out. A Muldrow man who's spent years developing different inventions has finally come up with a product that seems to be taking off.

"Now even if your bottom wire is rusted which is the first to go on all fences you just simply place Dig DeFence in at an angle you drive it in the ground."

Dig DeFence creator Todd Richmond says it not only ties the fence together and secures it to the ground. It also creates a dig-proof barrier. He says a half hour job now takes 20 seconds.

"One day I just had a cattle panel in my shop, and it just clicked," Richmond said.

That was three years ago. His first prototype wasn't perfect, but he perfected it by making modifications until it became a patented panel. Richmond believes there's a market for his product and is convinced that it will save thousands of animals lives. Todd is in talks with more than a half dozen distributors but for now it's available at your local cooperatives in Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and Van Buren."

"We have a lot of folks that live in town that have the issue of the fence dogs digging under fence also gardens folks try to fence out the rabbits," Farmers Co-Op CEO Jay Carter told 5NEWS.

But Dig DeFence isn't just to keep pets in, it's also meant to keep predators out. The angled prongs force unwanted animals to go back the way they came. And here's how Richmond is keeping it local:

"This product is made in the U.S. by Southern Steel and Wire locally, and I did that on purpose. I wanted to bring jobs to our town," he said.

Richmond has already demonstrated the product for Anthony Sullivan, the host of Discovery's Pitchmen. He was one of 200 inventors that made it to the top ten.

Richmond says Dig DeFence is also great for chicken houses; creating a barrier between the birds and the predators that would prey on them. Tuesday he gave a private presentation to a group of cooperatives and independent dealers from Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
